John began playing the guitar at age six, and the five string banjo at age ten. He was mostly self-taught in the early years. At that point, his musical interests were predominantly folk and bluegrass.
He grew up in Southern California, in the Los Angeles area - it was inevitable that his tastes would turn to rock and roll. At age 13, John began taking guitar lessons at a local music store. He studied with various teachers until he was 17.
After high school, John studied music theory and the history of music at El Camino College, and then at Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), where he graduated in 1981.
John relocated to the Ogden area in 1993, and has been enjoying meeting and playing with the "local talent". He is a regular performer at the Ogden airport jam on Thursday nights. John enjoys all styles of music and the opportunity to teach...and learn!
John's lesson rate is $82 per month
